@ Luca Thanks for sharing the link to http://www.thousanddays.org/ The opening page of the website shows that 3.5 million children die every year in the world due to malnutrition. Staggering numbers, calling for a revolution!
@ Barbara Thanks to you too for the link http://everyone.org/ The website is full of interesting information. We will certainly follow the twitter chat tomorrow!

A timely post on what Save the Children is calling the ‘hidden crisis’ that is killing 300 children every hour, every day across the world. The costs in both human and economic terms are huge as you point out, Emanuele. To mark the global launch on 15th February of our new flagship nutrition report, A Life Without Hunger: Tackling Child Malnutrition’ (see http://everyone.org/ ) Save the Children will host a Twitter Chat in collaboration with the United Nations Foundation (UNF), World Health Organisation (WHO) and The Million Moms Challenge. It will last 12 hours, spanning 3 continents and 12 different time zones starting at 5.30am GMT http://twebevent.com/hiddencrisis Use #hiddencrisis to participate.
Save the Children is calling on all world leaders to take a few simple measures to tackle malnutrition:
• to make the crisis visible by setting global and national targets to reduce stunting
• to increase funding for direct nutrition interventions, such as breastfeeding and fortification, that could save millions of lives.
• to invest in effective social protection policies that reach vulnerable families and support small-scale farmers by ensuring that their agricultural policies aim to improve nutrition.
• to use G8 / G20 meetings to galvanise political leadership on hunger and build a plan of concrete action to tackle malnutrition
Well done to the government of Mozambique for setting such an ambitious goal to reduce stunting. Although a challenging prospect, the future of Mozambican children and of the nation will be bright as a result.

Very incisive post emanuele, you correctly put the focus on the most crucial issues. Indeed the time from conception to the first 2 years of life (the so called "thousand days" http://www.thousanddays.org/) are a golden window of opportunity. We keep wondering how it is possible that many countries in the world still lack the political will to put nutrition on their list of priorities – and keep it there, given what a smart investment it is to improve nutrition of mothers and children! Well this applies to many more health interventions of course. Mozambique is on the way to do much better, setting the example for many other countries in the region. Parabéns
